Counter Terrorism and Peace Management

The Programme is to be run by the Sarhad Research Center for Counter Terrorism and Peace Management and an application for recognition of the course by the UGC has been applied for. The terrorist attacks in Mumbai certainly left their mark on every aspect of people's lives. Now comes the country's first degree course in countering terrorism. The Programme is an initiative of the Pune-based NGO Sarhad that works in Jammu and Kashmir and the two year postgraduate degree is called Counter Terrorism and Peace Management.

India has been a victim of terrorism for so many decades. It has been a victim of terrorism for so many decades. It has become very important that we study terrorism and educate people about counter-terrorism strategies. Fees for the course are Rs.30000 a year. IANS reports that part of the course will include taking student to terror affected sites as part of their practical training. The institute will have senior on board and lawyers, journalists also some surrendered militants, who will explain how they became terrorist.

The Course in first year will include the etymology and philosophy of terrorism, terrorist ideologies and modus operandi, national policy and the role of the print and electronic media. The second year will focus on different terrorist groups, socio-economic factors that mould a terrorist's mindset, control strategy, retention camps, drugs and arms trafficking. Designed by experts from various fields under the guidance of Aligarh Muslim University's former Vice Chancellor Mahmud-ur-Rahman, the programme promises to be well worth the time spent.

They will also be equipped to help societies and businesses come up with strategies and ideas to combat terrorism. All the students will be equipped to work at the ground level in areas effected by terrorism and play a vital role in restoring peace harmony. Visiting faculty from other terro-affected Asian Countries will also give students an overall picture of the situation. And as Rahman told IANS. There is no counter-terrorism training or knowledge offered to common people though they become major victims in a terror attack. The course is about managing peace in the country.
